Jane's Development

January 11, 2006 when my daughter was diagnosed with Austism Spectrum Disorder. The doctor advised us to send Jane to an occupational therapist. But we couldn't afford it. We didn't allowed our situation to uphold our daughter's chance of being cured. I began to research about the disorder on the internet. I found several sites that explain everything about it. I was encouraged by the testimonies of the parents who also have children with autism. I availed and asked for free DVDs that would give my husband and I some pointers on how to handle our daughter's behavior and helped us understand her needs deeply.

We could not entrust Jane to a helper. And because I was receiving a bigger income, my husband agreed to give-up his full-time ministry as a Youth Pastor and be a full-time house father.

My husband was a very patient trainor. He managed to potty-trained Jane before she reached the age of four. He taught her ABC and counting 1 to 100. And amazingly, Jane has memorized those in a short span of time. Gradually, we started to discover Jane's strengths. Her talents begun to show-up and her vocabulary started to grow.

I was promoted in 2007, thus, gave us capacity to bring Jane to an occupational therapist. She received OT twice a week for two years. In June 2008, we enrolled her in Heart of Peace (a school that offers special education). Several months passed, she started to say phrases like "I like water". She doesn't use hand knealing anymore.

In her first year at HOPE (SY 2008-2009), she received two medals for showing exemplary improvement in reading and comprehension and spelling. And in SY 2009-2010 Moving-up Exercises she again received a medal for showing exemplary improvement in reading. She was also recommended by her SPED teacher to attend mainstream class (regular school) at UNIDA Nehemiah Christian Academy. Thus, for SY 2010-2011, Jane is enrolled in a SPED and regular school.
